LUBRIFICATION METHODS
FOR THE ROLLER BEARINGS

IT IS IMPRORTANT TO FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES:

  1. At start-up, if the bearing emits a whistling sound, it is necessary to add grease. For this you must remove the overflow valve, and slowly regrease until the whistling has stopped. Then reinstall the overflow valve. Upon the adding of grease, the shaft axe must be moving and not stationary.

  2. 2. The first 2 to 3 hours of operation are critical to the roller bearing. It must be observed if the whistling has returned. If it has returned, repeat Step 1.

  3. 3. During the 48-hour breaking-in period, monitoring of the whistling sound is necessary. If the problem persists, repeat Step 1. If the whistling is again still present, please contact us.

  4. In the case of the open bearings that can be regreased, it is necessary to add grease after a certain time. The intervals of lubrication is determined by the number of hours of service, the temperature of the operation, the surroundings (clean or contaminated) and the positioning of the shaft (horizontally or vertically).

N.B. The quantity of grease at each interval of lubrification is important as is the removal of the overflow valve.

It is not recommended to mix greases for the simple and good reason that the mixture will only produce a sludge, and not a lubricant. We recommend to use SHELL CYPRINA RA/C3 grease, it is long-lasting for the bearings of electrical motors. It is also recommended for the bearings of traction motors for EMD and GE locomotives engines. It offers and exceptional lifespan, a superior mechanical stability, and an excellent return at high temperatures. Its NLGI 3 grade suits a wide variety of demanding applications for Grade 3 grease; for example, the bearings for Westinghouse electrical motors.
